Privacy policy

Barky is run by Tristan Boettiger as a sole proprietor in South Africa. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), we're responsible for the personal information you share with us, and Tristan is our Information Officer.

• About you: your name, email address, phone number and delivery address.
• About your dog: their name, whether they're a boy or girl, and any allergies.
• Your orders: your subscription, billing dates and order history.
• Messages: anything you send us by email or WhatsApp.

We don't collect or store your card details. PayFast handles all card payments securely.

• To run your subscription and take your monthly payment.
• To pack your box around your dog's allergies.
• To deliver your box and send you tracking details.
• To answer your questions and sort out any problems.
• To keep the records we're required to keep by law, such as for tax.

We'll only send you marketing messages if you've agreed to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

We never sell or rent your information. We only share what's needed with the services that help us run Barky:

• PayFast, to process your payments.
• Our courier partners, who receive your name, phone number and delivery address to deliver your box.
• Our website and email providers, who store information on our behalf.

Some of these providers may store information on servers outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA.

We may also share information if the law requires us to.

We love seeing your pup with their box. If you send us a photo or review, we'll only post it on our website or Instagram with your permission, and we'll only use your first name and initial. Ask us anytime and we'll take it down.

Our website uses cookies that are needed for it to work, such as keeping you logged in to My Account and remembering what's in your cart during checkout.

We keep your information while you're subscribed. After you cancel, we keep order and payment records for 5 years because tax law requires it. Anything we don't need to keep, we delete.

We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, including a secure website connection and password-protected accounts. If we ever become aware of a breach that affects your information, we'll let you and the Information Regulator know.

Under POPIA, you can:

• Ask what information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or update it.
• Ask us to delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it.
• Object to us using it for marketing.

Just email us. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

If we make important changes to this policy, we'll let you know by email. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
